Red Hat Society

So, what do you think about the Red Hat Society? Are you a member?

Recently one of the attorneys I work with turned 50 and was given a red hat with purple trim. Somehow, I don't see her as a Red Hat Society type of person, although I couldn't really say what the "type" is. It just doesn't seem like her.

Some of you asked about my hat quilt and mentioned how great the pattern would look in red and purple for your Red Hat Society friends. Actually, that's the way Sandy Gervais must have envisioned it, since that's what her pattern (above) shows. And some of you asked where to get the pattern. If you click HERE, it will take you to the pattern on her website.

I don't think I'm really a Red Hat Society person, but I might be wrong because I know little about it. Yes, I AM old enough--I hear they'll take you if you've been 39 for at least 11 years, and I'm a couple years past that. But I'm not really much of a group joiner. Still, it might be fun. If you're a member, tell me about it. What do you do? How long have you known the other ladies in your group? Did all your friends decide to form a group, or did you find a group that was already established? Inquiring minds . . . .

When I got the New Hats pattern, although I liked the red and purple colorway shown on the pattern, I wanted to do something different. First I was thinking about pastel Easter bonnets, but I thought the pastels wouldn't provide enough contrast, so I finally settled on the blue, yellow, and neutral colors. And, by the way, I finished it this weekend. Want to see?

The other thing that makes me think the Red Hat Society isn't really for me? I'm not much into wearing hats. Like, I really NEVER wear a hat. In the first place, my head's slightly larger than most hats. Probably because of all those brains in there. Or maybe it's all the thoughts of quilts-yet-to-be-made. And then there's the whole hat hair thing. And that picture of me? See that braided bun? Yeah, it doesn't fit into hats very well. Unless I cut a hole in the top of the hat, and somehow that brings to mind visions of the Old Gray Mare who ain't what she used to be.

No, hats aren't really me. I think I'm more of a scarf person. But not the dressy, fussy kind of scarfs. No sir-eee! They never stay where they're supposed to, and then I'm always tugging and adjusting. No, I think I really prefer this kind of scarf:

I wonder if there's a society I could join that wears those?

I had seen those scarves on an email. Aren't they just hilarious?! I like the expressions on the faces of the women wearing them. Maybe we could make a virtual club, because I'm right there with you, both in age and temperament.

I love your hat quilt. It came out great. I rarely wear hats because I, too, have a big head - bigger than my DH's. I just tell him it's because I have more brains than him (like you).

Those boob scarves cracked me up. Too funny!

Kim you crack me up! I never expected the "scarves", where you find these pictures I'll never know but I hope you never stop. Your quilt is just beautiful. You have such a wonderful color sense, can I have some of it? Thanks for the laugh today.

Ok... that's the funniest thing I have seen in awhile. I particularly like that ones that have embroidery that looks like a tattoo. I know exactly what i am making my girlfriends for Christmas this year. I have been ultra busy with my business and I have been trying to keep up with your wonderful blog so I don't miss anything. Man was this a delightful surprise. You never disappoint.

OMG! Those scarves are hilarious! I can't wait to show my husband. Oh wait. Maybe I shouldn't show him. He'll probably want me to buy one!

I'm not old enough for RHS, but when I am, I won't join. It just isn't me. They have a great time socializing, though. At first I thought it was just quilters, and then I realized more women that aren't quilters are in the RHS. Still, it's not me.

Your quilt looks gorgeous! I like your blues and yellows better than the darker colorway.

When I first saw the purple and red hat picture, I thought you made another hat quilt, I'm thinking wow is she so fast at sewing. I like your yellow and blue version better. Like you I'm not into hats, my husband wears baseball hats a lot but it's different for men I guess.

HA! That is hysterical. Thanks for the laugh!

I personally don't like red and purple together, your quilt is sooo much prettier! I don't know much about the RHS. I've still got some time before I'm eligible anyway. I have a big head too, not good for hats.

First the business part - I love your hat quilt! It turned out fantastic.
And now I want to thank you for the scarf laughs! Too funny! I don;t think I would ever want to join the red hat ladies, but your scarf group looks promising!

Hilarious photo!!! This reminds me of a line Harvey Korman used in a routine a few years ago...he said his wife used to be a 38 C but now she was a 42 Long!!!!

Thanks for sharing. I like your colorway better for the hats. I don't think I could join the Red Hat Society either because of my large Irish head, but sometimes those ladies look like they are having a blast!

KIm -
Those ladies are originals and so are you- what a hoot or should I say What hooters :O)Thanks for the laugh...

I love your hat quilt..I think I wouldn't mind be a member of the Red Hat Socity - don't have one that I am aware of in my area..

Your shamrock quilt turned out just great...

Well, as far are the Red Hat Society, it will have to wait until I grow up. I also will learn to play bridge then too.

Love your quilt - saw it in person tonight AND the pictures do not do it justice. Your quilting, fabric choices and precious embelishments, especially the wool leaves.

The scarves are a hoot. Since I do not have "any" I should order a scarf....

Cheerio

HILARIOUS I need those boobs, they are much perkier than mine LOL
Red Hats....now I said I would never join that much less wear a hat.
A friend of mine and I started one and at first I was so embarrassed to dress up and wear a hat, I felt like a clown, well guess what that was a good thing cause it broght out my silly side, I was voted in as Queen Mary and in just a few weeks we had 35 members. Yes we went to places, like the cities art museum etc. but always stayed in best behavior , which is tough for me, we met one a week at a Panera Bread restaurant and OH MY when anyone got too serious I would ask questions like Has anyone ever pee'd their pants while out? It was fun, funny and great friendships, I dropped out because I started caring for my grandchildren, they got a new queen but said she wasnt goofy like me. You seem the type that would have a blast and the Hat helps, I made several and the more junk on them the better.
Mary
