The other day I found a smallish yellow crock at the thrift store. I thought it would be a good color match for the yellow pitcher I found the other day, so I decided it would come home with me. When items have lids or removeable parts, Goodwill tapes them all together, so I couldn't remove the lid until I got home. When I untaped it, I was surprised to see this--
What is it? Luckily there was a sticker with a name and a website address on the bottom, so I was able to figure out what it is exactly. Have you seen one before? Can you guess what it is? I'll be back to post later tonight and I'll reveal the mystery then.

That was a lucky find, I have one of these in white, and use it all the time.
DH, who only makes spaghetti sauce, wonders if it used to "proof" starter for bread making...
I however, think you should send it to me so I can check it out closer. (along with that yellow pitcher)
whatever it is I love it and wouldn't mind it for my kitchen...hehehe..love the color too!!!
I think you put ice in the bottom part and a cheeseball or butter in the top???
I'm guessing with Red Geranium Cottage and saying it's a butter thingy. Technical term. Aren't you impressed? :)
My vote is for the butter "holder" too - you put cold water in the bottom and butter in the bowl part and you can leave your butter out on the counter and it stays soft - DH searched high and low for one of those a few years ago!
Hi Kim,
I think it is an ice cream mold - the butter mold seems like a likely thing- it is pretty interesting anyway. You do find the greatest things during your thrift shopping- One day soon I will have to go out exploring there- maybe a better plan is for me to dig around in all my boxes in the basement of my house- I might find a treasure or two that I have forgotten about.LOl.. It is nice to see that you are feeling so much better...
Regards,
Anna
Seen one? I own one in lime green!
It's called a butter bell, and I really, really want one! You are so lucky to find one at a thrift shop. You pat the lid full of room temp butter, and then keep water in the bottom. The water keeps the air from getting in and oxidizing (changing the flavour of) your butter. At Williams Sonoma in Canada, they cost $45. Sweet deal, Kim!
It is a butter bell. Top well with butter and then the bottom with a level of water. That way you have spreadable butter at your leisure. Great find!
I'm late reading this and that is something I've never seen but the Butter bell sounds like a neat idea. The butter would stay soft and easy to use. Neat treasure, Kim
