Bits of This and That

Have you been participating in the Moda Bakeshop Progressive Dinner? I popped over to visit a couple of the blogs tonight--yep, that's me: late for everything, including dinner! It wasn't what I thought it was going to be with projects and/or recipes like some of the recent holiday blog hops, or even like our Be Mine Blog Tour, although a couple of the designers I visited did have recipes and/or projects. Most of the emphasis, though, seemed to be on a new book that's coming out and precut fabric giveaways--NOT that I would ever quibble with THAT, mind you! I certainly left comments on the blogs I visited, although I kind of doubt I'll get to visit all of them to be entered into the grand prize giveaway.

I finished the Mon Ami quilt top--I haven't measured it, but I think it's probably around 50" square, so it's a good tabletopper size or nice for a small lap quilt--maybe for sitting outside watching fireworks on the 4th of July when sunburned skin gets just a bit chilly?

I checked out the second block of the Waiting for Spring block-a-palooza thing and I'm not sure about that one either--at least not with the fabrics the designers are working with. This one is by Elizabeth Hartman of Oh, Fransson! Click HERE if you want to see it and haven't already. She mentioned in her post that the designers were asked to create a block with a flying geese or 9-patch motif, and that's making me wonder whether I want to keep going with this. I'm leaning toward waiting to see what the next few blocks look like before I decide. I really love the fabric, so I'm sure I could come up with an alternate idea if I decide to go off in a different direction.

Speaking of block things, thank you for your encouragement about doing one of my own here on my blog. Since I now know there are several of you who might be interested, I'll give it some serious thought and probably ask you to answer a few questions in the near future so I can come up with an idea that might be interesting. I'd truly appreciate it if you'd comment with your answers when the time comes.

Tomorrow night I get to attend a trunk show and talk by Amy Barickman of Indygo Junction and Vintage Notions. I'll be meeting my stitchery gals for dinner before the show. I wish you could all come, but I'll try to remember to take my camera and tell you all about it, okay? See you after the show.

Your Mon Ami is outstanding! I am glad to hear someone else is pondering about the Block-a-palooza. I had such high hopes for this quilt along. I REALLY admire so many of these young designers and thought it was going to be a WOW kinda quilt and so far what I have seen, has me waiting to see whats coming next and I was rather disappointed to read it will be all nine patches and flying geese. So far what I have seen hasn't inspired me to cut into this fabric and I am heavely invested! I bought too much! I am still watching and hoping, something pops up that says I just have to have this!

Love the quilt - beautiful work as usual! I am with you on the Block-a-palooza. I was expecting something more. I am going to look at the next few, but I am almost sure that I am not going to follow it all the way through.

Love your Mon Ami, the border is fabulous!

I am so happy to hear that I am not the only one who WAS so excited about the Block a palooza. I saw the first block and wasn't loving it so I decided to wait for the second block. Was even less excited about it and decided to wait some more before I completely give up on it.

I did check out the 2nd block for the Block-A-Palooza... dud. Boring. Your Mon Ami is an American Beauty. Great table topper for June (Flag Day) and July.

Hi Kim,
I really love your Mon Ami quilt. You always put a twist on your projects that make them "you"...I admire that.
As for the Progressive Dinner. That was sort of sprung on us, it's a long story. I think when you try to coordinate 15 peeps to blog about something...it gets haywire LOL. Overall I think it went well though.

Love the Mon Ami, perfect for 4th of July. I'm also disappointed in the Block-a-Palozzza so far. Think I will save my fat quarter bundle for something else. Am having fun with Little Miss Shabby's quilt along using the Sunkissed line. Simple design that shows the fabric well and will be a sweet quilt when done. Fun to see what everyone else is doing. Would love to see you try your hand at a quilt along. You are two for two with the quilts you have made this year.

Your Mon Ami is very nice - well done. I'm a bit surprised at Blog-A-Palooza; with the designers on the project I expected more striking blocks. The fabric is pretty but I'm not sure it's the best for this project as the blocks look a bit washed out, which maybe contributes to why they don't catch my eye? I was bummed at the Moda progressive dinner too. I just didn't "get it" but I didn't read all the posts really closely either, maybe my own fault for not understanding.
