It's Always Something

Do you remember back in May--HERE in fact--we bought a new refrigerator? If not, maybe this will jog your memory:

Lovely, isn't it? Well, here it is, less than six months later, and the new fridge has gone out. On Friday night, actually. Why is it that stuff stops working right at the beginning of the weekend? Last weekend it was the main water line, and this weekend it's the refrigerator.

Of course, the repair guy won't come until tomorrow (Monday). We've been told that under our warranty, we can claim food losses up to $250, which doesn't seem too bad until you start thinking about how much all the condiments, salad dressings, and sauces cost to replace, not to mention all the vegetables, milk, cheese, and other perishables. We've taken photos to document the food in the fridge and Hubby went out to buy a styrofoam cooler so we could try to save a few things.

It could be worse. At least I didn't have to cook much over the weekend. And we gave some of our perishables to Soccer Son--I'm sure he and his lovely wife-to-be-someday can put the food to good use. But darn it! I'm really looking forward to life becoming a little more peaceful and predictable. I wonder when it will start?

They just don't make things like they use to there was a time you replaced items because you had it so long you wanted a change now it because it packs up & cost more to repair than to replace hope that you get it sorted

Stuff is just not made to last. You even did a lot of research before you bought the darn thing! I was just thinking the other day, our fridge and our microwave are both over 20 years old, and our washer and dryer are not much newer. I'm sure the next set won't last this long!

Oh shoot! What a pain in the you know what. It's always something, isn't it!!! You are right on that $250.00 ... it doesn't go far these days and all those condiments and such are quite expensive! We just had to buy a new one 2 months ago ... sure hope it last longer than 6 months! Hope they get you back up and running today :)

I had a fridge go out on Thanksgiving. Picture if you will, me in a corner, stuffing a turkey while hubby and a friend of his haul the dead fridge out and bring in the 'beer' fridge from the garage. That 'beer' fridge lasted for years before we had to buy a new fridge. Good luck.

Sorry about your frig. I heard on a fix it show on the radio that the new energy efficient appliances have a "shelf life" of 3-5 years because of the smaller motors. The old ones ran for 30 years. How do you think this saves us energy? We have to buy new ones which take energy to produce and take up space in the land fills. You are living proof, I guess. What's a girl to do? I hope you took the cooking time to do something fun.

Drats! 6 months you say? Scary to think that products don't last as they used to. $250....have they seen the prices lately?!!!!

The same thing happened to me! My refrigerator went out. It took a week for a repairman to come out and then they had to order the part! We kept things cold in a huge cooler in the kitchen. It was very frustrating! And then on top of that the A/C unit went out (thank goodness it was under warranty). We live in the south and it gets very humid here in the summer.
They say things happen in 3's. I couldn't imagine what else might happen and then the worst thing imaginable happened :(
My oldest daughter passed away in July at the age of 29. Needless to say it was a tough summer for me and my family.
I love your blog. You make me laugh each morning when I get up and read about your life and these days I need something to make me smile each morning!
I actually began a blog last month. You will have to visit mine.
Hugs,
Donna

Heck that's bad, it should last a lot longer before needing attention. Guess that's why I married a refrigeration engineer...
