Those of you keeping up with my beauty routines will be fascinated and awestruck by the fact that I finally broke out the box of Nice N Easy (or whatever brand was on sale recently) and refreshed my blonde(ish brown) locks tonight. It's something I've been meaning to do for about two weeks now. Sometimes it takes me a little while to work my way up to something that momentous. Now I'm good for about another four months (although it will probably be about six months before I get around to it again).
Now that THAT's done, I'll have to check my calendar to see when I might be able to fit in a good chin plucking. Those who know me in person will be forever grateful.
The week before quilt camp, I got to thinking about all the beauty products I may need to further enhance the happy and well rested look I'd be sporting upon my return, and that's when I picked up the hair color. At the same time, since I'd worn the colored stripe right off my old toothbrush, I figured it was time to get a new one of those too.
I don't know if you remember THIS post, but I had gone to the grocery store for toothpaste, and I was totally dumbfounded and confused by the wide and varied selection of products available. Why would anyone need this many different types of toothpaste? I remember the good old days when the only choice was whether to buy Colgate or Crest.
And that brings me to this. Have you shopped for a toothbrush lately? Here's what I found out: THERE ARE NO "NORMAL" TOOTHBRUSHES ANYMORE. The toothbrushes on the store shelves all seem to do more than just brush teeth. And the colors? Do I really want a neon green and purple toothbrush to jolt me awake each morning? Do I have a choice? This is what came home with me.
It really looked somewhat normal, except for the colors. At least the brush part looked like a brush part, right? But when I took it out of the package and tested it out in my mouth--OMG! It felt like I was brushing my teeth with a French tickler! There's nubby rubber stuff on the back that tickles the inside of my cheeks and the brush feels much larger than it looks!
I think the people in charge of our dental health have WAAAAAAY too much time on their hands. Maybe we should give them something more to do, like solving the world hunger problem. Or finding a cure for facial hair in women of a certain age.
Besides bemoaning the current state of beauty products, I wanted to announce the winner of the pumpkin bag giveaway. The number 13 seemed appropriate for a Halloween giveaway, and the 13th person to comment that they wanted to be entered was Sandy from Thimbleberries. Sandy is a local quilter who I don't see very often but who reads my blog all the time. She's entered many of my giveaways, and I understand she's always convinced she'll win, but she never does--until now! Congrats, Sandy! Email me your snail mail address, and I'll send it off to you!
Okay, now that THAT business has been taken care of, what beauty products most fascinate, puzzle, or mystify you? Oh, and before I forget, did you see they held the Snuggie fashion show this past week?
Yep, seriously. I guess the Christmas season is gearing up!
Also have you seen the priece of toothpaste or at least here it so expensive if you want a certain one Pro Ennamel it nearly £4 a tube i mean you feel like you brushing with gold dust it so expensive lol
ReplyDeleteI think the beauty industry has cotton on to the fact that it big bucks to be made lol
Hugs Janice
Congrats to Sandy. We have too many choices for everything.
ReplyDeleteOh, I so agree about there being too many choices (except for fabric & yarn of course). Do any of you ever go shopping for something specific and come home empty handed because there were so many choices you just couldn't decide? Thanks for a great post, Kim. I too am struggling to stay on top of chin hair issues.
ReplyDeleteNot only are there a ridiculous number of kinds of toothpastes and toothbrushes - most of the brushes now don't fit into the porcelain holder that is cemented into my wall! What do do with that? I think that's very annoying and thank you for taking a courageous stand on dental products and allowing us to vent! Whew - good to get that out.....thanks for the hilarious snuggie picture. It looks like Catwoman in retirement! Have a great day....piece.
ReplyDeleteI think my hair must grow faster than yours....I need to color every six weeks or so, but I usually push it to 8 or 12 weeks :o) I don't like putting the color on, but I don't like gray more!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's tootbrush actually vibrates and it's not an electric one. I just spent $50 on her dental health at Walgreens (toothbrush, floss, toothpaste and whitener)...what the heck?! I can remember when a dental visit didn't cost that much!
Congrats to Sandy! I must admit I do enjoy the brightly colored toothbrushes. I think they're nice and cheery for when I'm bleak eyed and tired in the mornings. My biggest problem is that of quiltmamajb above. In our new house the toothbrushes don't fit into the holder that's part of the wall! Grrr!
ReplyDeletei remember thinking that i was deprived as a child because my mother bought Crest - i wanted to wonder where the yellow went when i brushed my teeth with Pepsodent ... Auntia uses those disposable floss jobbers that snap on a toothbrush shaped handle - i'm happy that she flosses, but whatever happened to wrapping it around your fingers and flinging stuff on the mirror?
ReplyDeleteI like funky colored toothbrushes. So I don't mistakenly grab my husband's. He's a "normal" color toothbrush kinda guy. But you're right. You need to factor in a least an hour when shopping for your dental needs due to all the choices out there!
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, you just have to try electrolysis! I have infrequent treatments and had one last week for the chin hair thing. It is permanent but every 1-2 years you need a touch up. It hurts a little but well worth it. I only wish I had known about it when I was young and had a little mustache that I got teased about.
ReplyDeleteYou make my mornings, Kim! Thanks for the chuckle this morning...I needed that! I can now face the 'world' with a smile on my face! (it's house cleaning day so I had to drag myself out of bed..) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat toothpaste thing is so funny. One of my daughters is very. specific. about what toothpaste she MUST have. I have to take her with me to get it, because really, they all look the same to me, and I never get the right one. Luckily my other two kids aren't so darn picky. Funny thing, though, their teeth aren't as white either. Hmmmmm.....
ReplyDeleteI like choice...but do find it can be very overwhelming. :-) We change our toothbrushes out regularly around here....if there is a sore throat...toothbrush goes! Have you seen the new toothpaste in a canister? I've been using the Sensodyne one...it really is wonderful. I admit it...I love trying new toothpaste...always looking for the one that leaves my mouth feeling freshest. The little things I tell ya!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your winner!!
oh nooo, just when I need to go out and buy myself a new toothbrush you post this warning.
ReplyDeleteSometimes when we are killing time waiting for a daughter, the other one and I go into the supermarket and look at the tooth brushes because they amuse us so much, especially the ones with wiggles in the middle!
ReplyDeleteYes, sad, I know, but I did say 'killing time'...its better than spending money!
Still LOL.
ReplyDeleteI have to go to work at the shop so will comment later.
I can't let this one go.
I do know the very best of all time tweezer - I'll share about it in my blog after I take a picture.
My best to you today and your girl gang of commenters - love you all.
Kim I do so enjoy your posts! Still laughing over the french ticker reference.
ReplyDeleteI bought that same toothbrush once...I hated it! I felt like it roughed up the inside of my mouth. Colgate Waves are my favorite. For toothpaste, my current fave is Crest Vanilla Mint...mmmm! So fresh and yummy! Hubby only uses Crest Tartar Control paste. So we have 2 different kinds. You're right, there are WAY too many choices, though!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the laughs! I too have stood in front of the toothpaste display just wishing for FEWER choices. Oh, and have you been in the cereal aisle lately?
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have that same toothbrush and now I don't know if I can ever use it again after your description!
