Brocante Break

It's time for a little break.

I've finally gotten the floral border finished and sewn onto the basket applique quilt. I "tested" it on my king size bed last night to check the size. No, I'm not making it for my king, but I WOULD kind of like it to fit a double or queen, so I thought I'd get a decent idea of the size by laying it on top of the king.

Next I want to see if I have any Thimbleberries fabric that's suitable for an outside border, but I have a feeling that nothing's going to do it justice. I have a feeling that I'm going to be adding pieced baskets around the outside. And I have a feeling that I'm going to struggle with not adding applique to the pieced baskets, but I'm sure going to try. But maybe not. Maybe I'll find the perfect border fabric. Lord knows I have plenty of Thimbleberries fabric to pick from!

In the meantime, I need a little break from this quilt, so I thought it would be a good time to get out those Lovely/Sandy Gervais charm packs and work on the Schnibbles Brocante quilt. I'll probably get a photo of that tomorrow to show you, but there are still a lot of blank spots on the design wall, so it wasn't photo-worthy just yet.

By the way, did I tell you?

I'm on vacation! I have a week off, and I'd like to do a few things around the house (like stripping the wallpaper in the bathroom and painting a room or two) but I'm not going to wear myself out doing it. I'm going to try to relax and enjoy the week. Maybe get out a little. Maybe shop. Maybe thrift. Who knows?

I started out by sleeping in this morning and then laying around and reading--when I wasn't napping. And then reading some more. Of course, I DID get into the Sweat Shop to work on that Brocante Schnibbles, but now I'm going to read a bit more and then sleep again.

Yep, it's going to be a good week, I think.

  3. Now I'm jealous. I'm just FINISHING my week off. Tally: 2 wine sleeves, 2 can koozies, 4 water bottle koozies, umpteen felt hair clippies, 2 bibs and 2 burpies. One of the bib/burpie sets is going to send me to jail. But I did not get my taxes done. Come to think of it, they put people in jail for that, too...

  6. The quilt is lovely! Since it already has much to oogle, why don't you add more of the white background, scallop the border and bind it in the blue?

  8. I'd say go simple on the final border. Do you have any more of that blue? I think a plain border of that would tie in nicely and frame those gorgeous pieced flowers. It looks wonderful!

  9. if you space the baskets under the pieced posies just so, they would be filled WITHOUT more applique ... and a final scalloping would be even more awesome.

in the meantime, have fun NOT being at work - the wallpaper can wait, and so can the painting...

  11. Kim your Thimbleberries basket applique quilt is looking amazing!
I love it more and more every time I see it. You probably don't want to hear this, but I want to encourage you to keep going and make it king sized! LOL It doesn't look like you have too much more to go for it to be king sized and you've put so much work into it already. I can just see it on your bed during July (with it's red white and blues it's patriotic and summery don't ya think?)
However you decided to finish the border you should be very proud of this one!!

  15. The Quilt is looking awesome! Hmmm, pieced baskets or maybe a flower pot shape with a stem that connects to that little flower might work. It looks big enough for a double, nearing the finish!
It sounds like you have a nice start to your time off, enjoy!
