Yep, you're right--it's state fair time again! Every year, there are two things I absolutely have to include in my state fair visit: Fair food and quilts. And most of the time, for whatever reason, I pass up the fried foods on a stick, but my blood pressure was a little on the low side a couple weeks ago, so I figured I should "fix" it with some deep fried fair food.
Hubby and I started out with sandwiches--me with a pulled pork and him with a pastrami. As we sat and ate, we surveyed the other food choices. I seriously was thinking: "Hey, what food here sounds interesting and absolutely cannot be bought at any other place, at any other time," and the deep fried cheese curds pretty much raised their greasy little hands and said eat me.
And we did. They were pretty good too!
Here's the other thing we went for. Rabbit Transit was on display with an honorable mention.
But besides that, I took a few photos so I could share them with you. First are a couple overviews so you can see how the displays were set up. And, of course, there are some beautiful quilts to be seen in these as well.
Hubby didn't really "get" the cow quilt but I thought it was funny. Besides that, I thought it was so similar to the cow quilt I took a photo of at the Verna Mosquera retreat that the two quilters must have taken the same class from Mary Lou Weidman.
I loved this rabbit quilt--of course, I DO like some nice rabbits! Do any of you recognize the pattern, perhaps? I think it would be great fun to make.
Hubby and I found ourselves looking at this display and commenting on how much we liked the piece, what the artist had done, and the number of awards. The funny thing is that after a couple minutes, we realized we were each talking about a different piece! I liked the small footstool on the right and Hubby was awed by the horn table on the left.
How could he like a horn table so much but dis a cow quilt? Men! Who can understand them? It almost made me not want to share my deep fried cheese curds with him!
By the way, what's your favorite fair food?
Looks as if you had a super day out at the Fair with delicious food and lots to look at. I LOVE that Cow quilt, so funny, and the gorgeous painted stool! Men are generally just not on our wavelength, which is probably a good thing all things considered!! I would much rather sew than mow the lawn, or chop up wood for the winter fires - so they have their uses! Thanks for sharing the fair, blogs are just great for this sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteWow, there are gorgeous quilts at your fair. The Arlington. County fair has very few. Congrats on the ribbon. Fav fair food -funnel cake!
ReplyDeleteI giggle to see the cow! Such humor!! Hey let us know about that rabbit quilt pattern if found.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your cheese curds. Being from Wisconsin they are on just about every appetizer menu at every restaurant. DH is in a Lions group so if I get to the fair I usually help out at their fair stand and serve food. Now that the grandchildren are the ages to take them to fair I will be doing the corn dogs and cotton candy with them. The displays at your fair look great!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see Rabbit Transit hanging for all of California to see. You did a great job.
ReplyDeleteI always go for the corn dogs. Gourmet delight!!
Looks like you had a great time at the fair--love the quilts! We have cheese curds on many restaurant menus in Iowa, and we love them. Each year when we go to the Iowa State Fair I try one of the new foods--often something on a stick or deep fried. I always have a pork chop on a stick and a strawberry smoothie. This year I think I'll try a double bacon corn dog or a red velvet funnel cake. You can go here to see the list of new foods for our fair this year.

ReplyDeleteLove the Rabbit Transit quilt. Very cute.

Have a great day.
I'm with MIss Jane - I go for the corn dogs. I've even paid the admission just to get the dog and see the quilts and leave! Didn't made the fair this year but it will be on my list for next June for sure. Enjoyed the photos and I really get a kick out of your blog. You're my kind of gal........
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time at the fair. I had deep fried cheese curds a few weeks ago while visiting a dairy farm, they aren't too bad.
ReplyDeleteI had to share that I LOVE the beautiful and creative COW made by Molly Evangelisti....your husband might be an engineer if he doesn't "get" the cows....There are over 75 different cows now and 25 were just shown in MN. and AQS will be showing 35 different cows next April in Des Moines,Iowa-they are slated for Back Porch in Pacific Grove in April too...thanks for sharing the Halloween cow! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your Honorable Mention for Rabbit Transit. It is gorgeous!
