The Wild Child, Soccer Son's Lovely Wife to be Someday, and I are attending a pumpkin carving party today at my friend Lisa's home. The Wild Child will demonstrate her exemplary bartending skills by mixing up the ever popular and oddly Halloween-appropriate drink, Bloody Marys. Lisa is fixing some kind of brunch food. It's sure to be a lot of fun!
I've begun thinking a bit about the pumpkin I'm going to carve. I'm still not sure what I'll do, but I thought I'd share with you some of the inspirational art pieces I came across on the internet. Perhaps you, too, will find a pumpkin that sparks your creativity in the photos below.
Kind of looks like my first mother in law.
Looks a little like a boss I had once.
Ditto.
Psycho pervert. I think he used to live next door many years ago.
Minnie Pearl?
Awwwww.
Beatles--for those of you too young to remember Abbey Road.
George Clooney--probably not the best portrait, but then what do you expect from a pumpkin? At least he looks sexier than those first few pumpkins I showed you!
What?! What does that mean?
I can hardly wait to see your pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteAll nursery rhymes have some sort of deeper meaning. This is what I found out:
ReplyDeletePeter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater,
Had a wife and couldn’t keep her,
Put her in a pumpkin shell,
And there he kept her, very well.
Peter was a poor man who had an unfaithful wife. She kept cheating on him (couldn’t keep her), so he had to find a way to stop her running around. His solution, fairly common in the middle ages, was a chastity belt (pumpkin shell). For those who don’t know, a chastity belt is roughly a pair of metal underwear with lock and key, so that no one could enter the private region of the woman except whoever held the key, usually her husband. And as the rhyme goes, once he put her in that belt, he kept her very well.
Sort of puts a new outlook on it, doesn't it!
Oh my gosh -- I loved the explanation Dannelle gave for that particular nursery rhyme! I'd always wondered but had never looked it up! Fun pumpkin photos. One of my all-time favorites is the one of the three hungover pumpkins on the porch, surrounded by empty beer cans. http://stuffyouthinkyouneed.blogspot.com/2008/10/drunk-pumpkins.html Very funny stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the hung over pumpkins as well!! Boy, nursery rhymes are not what you thought they were when you were a kid! Like 'Ring Around the Rosey'... I'm sure ya'll know what that one is talking about! YUCK!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pumpkin ideas -- however when the George Clooney one scrolled up my first thought was a young William Shatner -- oh I am getting old - and yes I clearly remember Abbey Road -- have a great time pumpkin carving!
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing, carol fun! Definitely looks more like William Shatner (as Captain Kirk).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your pumpkins will be wonderful, Kim. Hope you'll share some photos. Happy Hallowe'en, all!
Very interesting story about Peter Peter from Dannelle! Makes you rethink the whole "pumpkin eater" thing too! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat looks like William Shatner to me. :-) Oops! I see someone else said that too!
