Sadly, I've had to take a little break from quilting the Back Home Again/Ellery quilt. You see, I woke up in the middle of the night last night to find that both my arms had fallen off at the shoulder joints and my head had separated from my shoulders at the C5-6 level. Of course, I immediately screwed my arms back on with Hubby's assistance, right after he tapped my head back onto my shoulders, but I decided it would be best to let everything reattach, regenerate, and heal for a few days before going back to hauling that big quilt around the sewing machine. Really, I'd hate to have that happen again. Yikes!
So what did I do instead? Because you know I couldn't just sit around and do nothing, right? Well, my Blogland friend Brandie, who also lives in Northern California, does some really neat stuff, and I've been copying her coaster ideas for the past several months. A week or two ago, I was catching up on her blog and saw she had been playing around with some spring/floral coasters. (Click HERE to see her coasters, and then check out some of her other excellent ideas.) So of course I wanted to make some of my own. And that's what I worked on tonight--want to see them?
Seriously, though, I didn't do these alone--I had a little help. And for those of you who have been wondering about the size of the throat area of a Juki sewing machine, here's a bit of a visual reference:
Cat size.
Who knew! Of course I would say chihuahua sized. LOL
ReplyDeleteHmmmm. Did you stitch first, then cut them out?
ReplyDeleteHaha! Love your helper! Great pics and great job with your pieces!
ReplyDeleteWas your injury caused by a mere flesh wound?
ReplyDeleteAs usual, you took a good idea and made it even better. Your fabric is perfect!
Great visual for the Juki. They should use it in their ads.
I was slowly sliding down this post, reading every word, and when I got to the photo and "cat size" I burst out laughing so loudly that DH asked what in the world was so funny. (He wouldn't get it.)
ReplyDeleteThat pretty feline head was such a surprise!
Your coasters are very elegant. You chose a lovely floral fabric for them.
That is a cute photo!!! Love the coasters, have been meaning to have a go at them. Hope your injury is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteLove the coasters! Would you mind sharing which model Juki you have?
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of buying a new machine that I can machine quilt with and can't decide between the Bernina and the Juki!
Linda
I'm so very glad you were able to reattach your arms and screw your head back on. :)
ReplyDeleteI would hate to see you try to quilt in that condition......
What a clever idea the coasters are. I have some material with big teacups on it. I am going to try that method and have a go at sewing without the feed dogs. Looks like you have feed cats instead.
ReplyDeleteI love this! It's so lovely! You're such a great sewer and quilter.
ReplyDeleteI still love my Juki, but it didn't come with a cute little furry helper like you have. Glad you were able to attach limbs and carry on, lol, I know the feeling!
ReplyDeleteYour Mon Ami looks great! I just came from Sherri's blog.....I love it :) Lots of half square triangles!
ReplyDeleteSweetie,
ReplyDeleteFor the amount of quilting you do, you need to get a long arm and frame! --Marla
Ah, nice! Sorry your are having "fall out" from quilting :o)
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! That is exactly why I don't quilt on my domestic machine!
ReplyDeleteI like Brandie's coasters too! Yours are lovely, I do love large florals.
ReplyDeleteYour kitty pic made me laugh, I was waiting for something serious. Who's blog did I think I was reading? He so reminds me of my long gone, but never forgotten Michael. Too funny!! thanks for the smile and memory.
my word is ricarret...I guess Scooby Doo has quit smoking, haha.
Thanks, Kim, for the visual image of a post-older-brother Barbie doll...
ReplyDeleteYour Juki photo is priceless!
