Can't See the Forest for the Trees!

I've been making trees all weekend. Yesterday it was mostly the cutting. Today, it was making blocks. All day. Except for a little break to do some house cleaning.

I'm making 48 blocks and I think I have somewhere around half of them done. I like the way they're turning out and I could have gone on sewing, but my neck and shoulders had other ideas. One of the voices in my head said, "Enough with the trees already!"

So I stopped and made zucchini nut bread. Yum! I think I posted the recipe on my blog awhile back if you're interested. I'll probably take a loaf to work tomorrow with some cream cheese to share with the gang.

While the bread was baking, I went to bed with a good book. I was feeling awfully lazy and seriously thinking I did NOT want to stop reading to write my blog, but I kind of got a second wind. Talking about bed, though, reminds me of something I wanted to ask you. Is it abnormal to have a couple different sets of sheets in different colors so you can change them out to go with your quilts and/or the season? 'Cause it seems perfectly reasonable and natural to ME, but some of my coworkers were teasing me the other day. I think I read a similar question on someone's blog about a year ago and it was about half and half whether people had more than one set of sheets. So, tell me: How about you?

  2. I am loving that tree quilt!!....sheets! can't have enough of them....and I have matching doona covers for most of them.....so I change the look of the room often......the Prince doesn't even mind sleeping in pink floral/check sheets from Laura Ashley...LOL

  3. your trees are fabulous. I love your color choices on just about every quilt you make. As for the sheets. I have 4 sets of sheets at the moment..that is for one of our beds...the other I have 2. I coordinate with quilts..

  4. of course you need to coordinate your sheets.I have two different ones for my bed and change every now and then. Now DH is a white guy. When and if he ever sleeps in his bed. He stays in the lift chair most of the time.

Love those trees, but personally I'd like the trees in a darker green. Just me.

  5. Your trees are coming along beautifully.

Because I HATE folding sheets and mine match everything....I use one set, wash, dry and put back on the bed. It is easy that way. I do have a spare set.

If quilters have different sets for each quilt they are likely to also make pillow shams to match too? Or the pillowcase tutorial? Just wondering how many people go that extra step.

I'm giving away a pattern this week if your interested in commenting.

  6. I have different sheets for the seasons (quilts too of course). I have to have flannel sheets for winter and they're bright red! In fact that red and green tree quilt would be perfect for my bed for winter...lol. I love it.

  7. Love love love this quilt! (Although I don't think I could sleep under it - I would just be too happy to relax!) You've sold me - I am ordering this pattern TODAY!

I'm surprised that you need 48 blocks - wow - they look so big.

  8. I have about 7 or 8 sets of sheets. I have multiples to coordinate with quilts and also the seasons. I have some wonderful flannels which are soft and warm even when you first get into bed.
    Love the trees!!!

  9. That quilt looks like it will match your lime green and red color scheme from last year really well! Nice job!

I have only two sets of sheets for each room, different patterns but the same colors. I don't really have the space for much more than that anyway.
I too would rather just wash and put them right back on the beds. They're nice and soft, and always smell so good when they are fresh out of the dryer. I'll hate it when they wear out!

Personally, I've never really cared for things too matchy, matchy. (Martha Stewart I'm not!..lol)

The quilts I choose to put out seasonally work well with the colors already in the rooms.

Sounds like your co-workers just like to have fun. It's a shame they probably have no idea their teasing bothered you so much that you're still thinking about it on Sunday night.

  10. I love those tree blocks! We have flannel sheets for winter and cotton for summer - my husband is a sheet snob so he's focused on texture and not color. I buy all of mine in white or ivory. I've jsut discovered that an old flannel sheet makes great quilt batting!

  11. I love your tree quilt and the colors! What is that pattern again, I've seen it before. I wonder if it's still available.

  12. I love sheets! I change the colors to go with the quilts, the seasons or maybe I need something cool in summer, warm on a cold winter day or bright and sunny on a cloudy day. I love sheets and have to sneak them in the house. I bought some that were pumpkin colored just for October and November. I'd change them every other day if I could get away with it and buy more!
Love the trees, I want to work on mine that are in soft gray and pink. PattiO

  14. LOVE the trees! They look awesome and sooo happy!

I'm addicted to sheets/bedding. I have about 12 sets... for MY bed LOL! As well as 3 duvet covers, 3 comforters and a cute quilt that I just recently bought because I have not made my own yet.

Punkie has 6 fitted sheets, 6 different pillowcases for her toddler bed as well as 3 different blankets/comforters.

See. I told you I was addicted!

  15. LOVE THE TREES....Please tell me that is NOT a stack, slash, sew pattern. I can't do those and I love the trees and would like to do them....

Love your new background too....very cute and bright....

I have two sets, but also am too lazy to fold so I use one set all the time....

  16. Your trees are adorable. And I have one set of sheets. But if you remember, I'm somewhat adverse to housekeeping, and more than one set of sheets sounds like too much work. LOL

  17. Sheets glorious sheets! Can't have to many sets. matching with the quilts just makes you feel good. And that is what it is all about! Have a great day and love the trees!

  19. I LOVE the trees...noticed everyone else does too! Where can I find the pattern...I think I NEED to make some of those!

  20. Sheets, there are never enough. DH thinks one is enough, I would like one in every count and color if I had the $ and space to keep them! I love linens. I am the same about big fluffy towels. I love to fondle them in the stores and if I had the room I'd have more!
Love the trees, I couldn't find the pattern around here, maybe next year.

  21. You're my hero if you change your sheets to match your quilts. I would except the sheet color choices at COSTCO are limited. I do make matching pillowcases and shams now because it makes it easier for the "men" to make the bed. They can just fold up the sheets and lay the pillows at the top. I am waiting to decorate when the children are grown. Right now it's just a reason to get angry that they scrunched my expensive sheets and wadded them up on the floor. Usually they put a lollipop on top like a cherry. It's maddening. Don't let that co-worker make fun. He/she is just jealous. TRUST ME.

  22. Absolutely not nuts! That's why my bed is currently made with purple sheets! All my other bed quilts are red, white and blue, so our sheets are red. When I put my Crumb Chaos quilt on the bed last summer - with it's bright Moda Marble orange border - it didn't look right at all. The purple sheets accent it perfectly! I think I'll buy a new set of sheets in a new color every 6 months or so - then I can make bed quilts to go with them!

  23. Of course you should have multiple sets of sheets to match the seasons. Duh! Love the trees. I have that pattern. Maybe I should start it now so that it can become another WIP! LOL

  24. Love the trees!! Makes me want to get in there and start sewing. But, I've had a busy day and still have dinner to cook so I will put it off until tomorrow. But, you inspire me.

  25. So cute trees - a few of those around my cottage exchange blocks would be cute! Thanks to Costco and good prices, I have several sets of sheets, but I mostly keep them in neutral colors like sage green, tan, ivory so they blend with everything. My accents pillows are what I really play around with in terms of color. Cheers!

  26. Do people really only have one set? I would think having more than one is the norm, not the other way around! LOVE those trees!

  27. Are those trees a Buggy Barn pattern by chance? They're great, I really like them a lot!

  28. Love your work on the trees. You are an inspiration.
Sheets - we have have Costco's white, tan, cream - get the idea - DH does not like fancy colours - BUT I get to have tons of euro pillows and such that match whatever quilt I have on top of the bed. These are separate from our sleeping pillows that get buried under all the other "stuff" each morning when I make the bed. I usually change the quilts and shams etc each season.

  29. I have that pattern! Now I want to start making trees even more than ever. Love your fabrics.

We have white sheets. We also have hot pink sheets since my DH loves hot colors, especially pink. But I'm like my Dad, if the sheets are too loud they keep me awake. LOL

  30. I don't do a lot of decorating, so I don't match the sheets, except in some vague way. I have three sets - one on the bed, one in the laundry, and an extra in the closet. I don't even keep my sets together - I often am using one sheet with several different pillow cases, etc.

  31. One set of sheet's ??? No way, I have about 5 sets. I change them and put the dirty ones in the wash. If I had to wait until they were washed to make the bed we'd be sleeping on the mattress! I got most from buying whole bundles of comforter, sheets, ruffle etc, all together!

LOVING the trees. Your fabrics turned out so well!

  32. i guess i have to vote on the only one set at a time side. i don't like to fold sheets either, especially that darned $&_##&$)# one so we have one set. take off, wash, and put back on. no fuss, no wrinkles. but i like the idea of changing the sheets with the seasons. just not enough to fold the fitted sheet! love the trees. i like the brighter green even though i usually like the darker prim colours. the bright green is SO HAPPY looking!
