Christmas Chaos

I thought I should show you that I've been working on the blocks I showed you the other day--I haven't just been shopping non-stop this week.  I still need to make one more whole block to go in the open spot and eight half blocks to fill in the triangles around the outside.  And maybe four quarter blocks for the corners.  But I have 12 blocks done so far, although right now it looks a bit chaotic.

See what I mean?  All the blocks I've made are up on the design wall, on TOP of the red and cream quilt pieces, and these blocks kind of just bleed into one another, don't they?  I'm planning to add some sashing between the blocks so they can stand out on their own better.  I'm leaning toward white sashing but I was originally thinking of red with white polka dots.  What do you think?  White?

Did you know that tonight, Friday night, is the monthly Friday Night Sew In?  I signed up and plan to work on this project--maybe I can get the rest of the blocks done and start on the sashing.  Ideally, I'd like to get it finished this weekend and maybe even pinned for quilting.

If you haven't signed up and want to, just click on the button on my sidebar a little way down the page there.  I bet you still have a project or two you'd like to work on, right?  Maybe we can sew together.  I'll bring the hot chocolate if you'll bring the marshmallows.  See you there!

  1. Hi Kim
I like the idea of red with white polka dots!
I am sewing tonight, at my favourite quilt shop. Once a month she hosts an all day sewing fest. I have to work on my 'homework' for next week's applique class.

  2. I'm in favor of the white. It would give my eyes a resting place. Have fun sewing tonight.

  3. yes it does look like a blendable quilt and sashing would be the answer if you didn't want that look. As for color???? Maybe white with tiny red, green or blue polka dots??? Can't wait to see what you decide!

  4. I think your blocks are gorgeous! I would go with the white...to break up all that other colour.

  5. I think white is what most people would do. So I say, go for the polka dots!!

  6. White. I love the red polka dot idea but I think it would be too much with all that going on in the blocks.

  7. Kim ~ I love the blocks but I'm a visual person & can't just guess on what you should use.My recommendation is that I would prefer to see examples using white and also using white w/ red dots fabric w/ the blocks.

  8. Oh wow - those blocks look great but some sashing for a resting place for the eyes is a great idea. I'd love to see pictures of both sashing options. My first reaction was to say go with the white but now I'm wondering if that might be too boring next to the happily busy blocks. Would love to see what the polka dots look like!

  9. White would be good, but I'd love that bright green, too.
